How Green is Your Printer?

The clearest sign that any printer takes their environmental responsibility seriously is a credible environmental management system to a recognised standard, for example ISO14001.

At Severnprint we started to address environmental issues over twenty year’s ago and is embedded into every business decision we make. In 2003 we achieved ISO14001, one of the first commercial printers to do so in the UK. Then in 2004 we achieved FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification. Since then many hundreds of other printers have achieved these standards and we applaud this move.

However for us this was just one step down a path we started on many years ago, for many printers it has been a commercial decision rather than one motivated by environmental concern. Each printer will be achieving the standard to certain parameters they set, so it is extremely important to look beyond environmental recognition and ask some searching questions. We've drawn up a list, of 10 questions which will help you when assessing your current printer. For each we’ve given some examples of the good practice we’ve put into place; please download the following PDF for the list of questions.
