Company History

Severnprint began trading in 1977. Ken Pealing was the MD who started the business with a vision of supplying customers with exactly what they wanted, when they wanted it. This was at odds with the established ‘craft’ view of printing at this time. Many printers could not be made to achieve deadlines and quality was considered beyond the customer’s control.

This customer lead approach was successful and resulted in the introduction of a colour press in 1985 when many colour jobs were still printed on 2 colour presses. Severnprint soon began carrying out complex pre-press operations when most printers were buying this skill in. Digital pre-press arrived in 1994 – well ahead of many other printers and in 1999 Severnprint began using computer to plate technology which many other printers have only recently installed. In 1999 Severnprint achieved Investors in People.

These steps into new ways of doing things have kept Severnprint providing great value print with a strong regard for the environment. Severnprint published its first environmental policy in 1991. At this time few companies were involved in addressing environmental concerns. Severnprint took simple common sense steps to reduce the impact of the business on the environment.

In December 2003 Severnprint achieved ISO14001. This followed five environmental awards – the latest being the 2002 Gloucestershire Environmental Business Award – the second time that Severnprint has succeeded in winning this award.

A vital strand that runs throughout Severnprint is an excellent staff. The knowledge and skill level of the staff in each department is exceptional. Because of the constant investment in new technology the reliance on these skills and willingness to continue to get the best from new equipment keeps Severnprint at the front locally, regionally and nationally.
