Shortlisted for the Mayor's Green Procurement Award

Severnprint Ltd, the leading UK environmental printer, is shortlisted for the Mayor's Green Procurement 'Extra Mile' Award

On 30 th October at a ceremony in The Underglobe at the Shakespeare Globe Theatre in London, Severnprint Ltd will find out if they are a winner of The Mayor of London’s Green Procurement “Extra Mile” Award – an award that celebrates companies or organisations who have ‘gone the extra mile’ for environmental innovation, over and above green procurement, to create a
greener workplace.

Severnprint is shortlisted along with two others: the London Fire Brigade and the
James McNaughton Group, specialist paper suppliers who are also one of Severnprint’s suppliers.

David Pealing, Sales Director of Severnprint, says: “This is such an honour to be shortlisted for one of the Mayor’s Green Procurement Code Awards and especially for the ‘Extra Mile’ award. Over the last year, we have implemented more environmental initiatives because we always want to be a step ahead of the technology and we highlighted this in our entry. It is fantastic that we have been recognised for this along with two other such high performers in terms of environmental innovation.”

Five Mayor’s Green Procurement Code Awards will be presented by Deputy Mayor of London,
Nicky Gavron, in the categories of best performing public sector; best private sector; best small and medium enterprise; best newcomer, and the Extra Mile for environmental innovation.

Signatories to the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code will meet and celebrate achievements in green purchasing at the 2007 awards ceremony. Last year, the combined efforts of organisations signed up to the Green Procurement Code saved 175,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from being released through the purchase of £157 million of recycled products. Furthermore, 395,000 tonnes of waste was diverted from landfill through these purchases. This year’s achievements are expected to exceed this and will also be announced at the event.
