Severnprint recently printed the Match programme for the England v Scotland Schoolboys' International match played at the magnificent new Wembley Stadium on 26 th April.
The programme was designed and originated by our own Clive White, a member of our Macroom staff. For his efforts, Clive and his wife Criss were invited to Wembley for the day as guests of the English Schools' FA Chief Executive, John Read. We asked Clive to give us an insight into his day at Wembley.
"We were told to be at Wembley for 12 noon for lunch at 12.30 on Saturday 26 th April. On arrival, we made our way to the Wembley Suite, where, we enjoyed a welcoming drink and along with other guests and a few celebrities and sat down to an excellent 3-course lunch.
Preceding the England v Scotland Schools' international there was a Celebrity Match also played between England and Scotland which Scotland won 2-0, and we met and chatted with many of the celebrities involved including 'Big Bob' from 'Al Murray's Happy Hour', Luke who played Sam in 'Casualty', John Smeaton - the hero of the Glasgow Airport Terrorist Attack, former Premiership referee David Elleray, international tenor Martin Toal - who sang the National Anthem before kick-off, as well as Sir Trevor Brooking, Sir David Frost and Stephanie Moore - widow of Bobby Moore.
The Schools' international was a 'Centenary Shield' match which England had won the two previous years but this year was won by The Republic of Ireland. It was also for the inaugural 'Bobby Moore Trophy' which will now be challenged for annually between England and Scotland as well as for the Centenary Shield. England won the match 2-0 and we witnessed some good football by both sides. The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research benefitted by receiving 5% of the proceeds from the game towards their sterling work for research into bowel cancer. Sir David Frost was there in his capacity as patron of the charity and the trophy was presented to the England captain after the match by Bobby Moore's widow, Stephannie Moore MBE.
Criss and I had a really enjoyable day at Wembley, and John Read presented me with a memento of the match in the form of a shield with an engraved plaque with match details. I have since received a DVD of the match from the official ESFA Photographers."
Next season England Schools' play Holland at Wembley on 6th June and home matches against Wales at Boston United and against Northern Ireland at Macclesfield and Clive will again be producing the programmes for these matches which will be printed by Severnprint.
